Day 2 – Gouzon to Etang de Landes Bike Ride

Starting from the pretty town of Gouzon, head out into the countryside on rarely used back roads for about 15 mins, where we then go off road firstly onto gravel tracks and then onto dirt tracks, which lead eventually to the beautiful Etang de Landes which is a nature reserve sustaining loads of birds and other wildlife. A muddy track leads around the lake, stopping at conveniently placed hides where you can get up close to the wildlife. After a gentle ride back to Gouzon enjoy a coffee at Le Sully café bar.
Packed Lunch en route then for those that want to start our second route of the day the "Moulins" ride, which tqakes us alongside rivers and ancient watermills.
Early evening - Roast dinner
Day 3 - Les Monts de Gueret
Breakfast 8 a.m.
This impressive range of forest covered hills has over 400 kms of singletrack and forest trail routes, varying in difficulty and length. We will customise this days rides dependent on the fitness/experience of the group. You will see stunning views across the Creuse valley, wind your way through bracken lined pathways and past giant stones to many of which the locals have attached folklore and legend.
Evening meal at Les Hirondelles
Day 4 – Ajain Bike Ride
Breakfast from 8am
A short drive away from base is a little more challenging mostly off road ride. Heading off between the lake and the ancient church in Ajain, we are immediately off road on gravel paths and dirt tracks, we wind our way cross country, through shady woods and over a few more hills today. Packed Lunch en route. Later in the afternoon we return to Ajain for a welcome coffee or cold beer at the local café. Some guests have chosen to ride back to base from here (about 8 miles).
Evening meal at Les Hirondelles
Day 5 - Chenerailles -
Breakfast 8 a.m.
A hundred and one lakes - Starting in the forest behind the town of Chenerailles, this ride is 98% off road, depending on the fitness/skill level of the group this ride has two alternative routes. Both routes start in the forest winding between the trees, past lakes then out into the countryside on mainly dirt roads and trails, at first this route is fairly undulating and not too technical, but depending on the group there is a technical and fairly hilly loop of about 12kms, plenty of tree roots and narrow passageways between boulders to make things interesting. Packed Lunch en route. Back on the main trail takes us past a lovely chateau, more lakes and woodland before finishing up on a short road section taking us back to Chenerailles. Evening Meal at Les Hirondelles
Day 6 – Boussac
Breakfast from 8am
We aim to drop you off in the market town of Boussac by 10am, where the town is taken over by the weekly market, buy locally produced cheeses and other goods, the chateau is well worth a visit, there are regular guided tours.
Lunch is up to you, there are plenty of cafes to choose from where you can practise your French!
After lunch we pick you up at about 2.30 and head up to Les Pierres Jaumatres, where there are ancient rock formations and stunning views. There is also a ropes course for the more adventurous among you (cost 13 Euros per person for about 2 hours), there is also a very pleasant coffee shop with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
This evening we drop you at a local restaurant/auberge for an evening meal (prices normally start at about 20 Euros per head)
Day 7 - Puy de Trois Cornes (The 3 Cornered Hill) This ride takes us in and out of woodland, cross country and around the Puy de Trois Cornes, some cheeky climbs will get those legs pumping, an enjoyable route and not too technical. There are of course a few tree roots to navigate which keeps things interesting. We can make this route as long or as short as you like as there are several variations within the woods here. The top of the Puy reaches to 635 metres but the route takes us only up to 590m and we never go below 470m so riders of all abilities should cope well with this one. One of the variations for the experienced mountain biker takes us down a steep and rocky descent, extremely exciting and fast, great fun! Packed lunch en route
