Below is a sample itinerary for a 7 day holiday
Sat - We collect you from Limoges Airport or La Souterraine Train Station
(1 Hour drive from Limoges Airport, approx. 30 mins from La Souterraine Train Station) and transport you toyour accommodation nestled in the stunning Creuse countryside where you will be allocated your room and have time to unpack and relax. Your hosts speak English, so no worries if you are not French speakers.
Late afternoon - at Les Hirondelles for your welcome meeting where we present you with your maps and route notes and can advise you on planning your week .
7 pm - Welcome BBQ
Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed and Friday. We transport you to the start of your walk, and arrange the times for collection.
For example, Starting from the pretty town of Gouzon, head out into the countryside on rarely used back roads for about 5 mins, where you can go off road firstly onto gravel tracks and then onto dirt tracks, which lead eventually to the beautiful Etang de Landes which is a nature reserve sustaining loads of birds and other wildlife. A dirt track leads around the lake, stopping at conveniently placed hides where you can get up close to the wildlife, take photos, enjoy your packed lunch and then head off into the countryside, past ancient mills on tracks bordered by huge granite boulders placed there hundreds of years ago, by the local peasants. The duration of this walk is on average 3-4 hours and finishes back at Gouzon, where there is a very nice pavement cafe 'Le Sully' where you can rest your legs and enjoy a cold beer or creamy hot chocolate!
Thursday – Optional trip to a large Market Town, where there is a chateau visit available, a Historical Town Walk leading down to the Petite Creuse river beside which you can enjoy your lunch, followed by a trip to the Giant Neolithic Stones - the 'Pierres Jamautres' .
Friday evening join our farewell BBQ at Les Hirondelles
Saturday – Transfer to Airport or Train Station
Holidays run all year round usually Saturday to Saturday but other lengths of holiday can be arranged - the best weather being April till end October.
